Who Should Take a 30-days IELTS Exam Preparation Plan?

Individuals from diverse professional backgrounds appear for the IELTS exam. It is common for some candidates, particularly working professionals, to seek a 30-day IELTS study plan due to time constraints in their daily routine.

International students planning to pursue higher education in foreign countries must be prepared for the next academic intake in their dream destination. That’s why they feel short of time and need a solid action plan to prepare for the IELTS exam in 30 days.

How to Schedule Your Timetable For IELTS Exam Preparation:

  • Create a calendar (either manually or digitally) and schedule your daily activities leading up to the IELTS test.
  • When you plan your day, dedicate atleast two to three hours to preparing for the IELTS Exam.
  • Create a checklist that outlines specific tasks to complete, such as mastering the speaking test’s second part technique, listening to a podcast daily, writing part-2 of the IELTS writing, and taking practice tests.
  • Tick off each day and each task as completed when you finish.
  • Ensure you complete all the tasks in your timetable. In case you miss anything, make sure to go back and finish it as soon as possible.

How to Prepare for IELTS Exams?

To make it easier, we have segregated the one-month study plan into four weeks.

Week-1

  • Week one of your IELTS study plan is crucial for setting the tone for your exam preparation. In the initial week of your IELTS exam preparation, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the test format, duration, and scoring criteria.
  • Once you’ve understood the structure of the exam, focus on building a strong foundation in the English language by brushing up on grammar, vocabulary, and basic language skills.
  • Allocate time for reading academic texts and practicing writing essays. Additionally, take mock tests to gauge your progress and identify areas that need improvement.
  • Finally, incorporate active learning techniques such as watching English language movies and listening to podcasts to make learning more enjoyable and effective.

Week-2

  • In week two of your IELTS study plan, it’s time to delve deeper into the exam format and hone your test-taking skills.
  • Focus on improving your reading and listening skills by practicing with various types of texts and audio materials. Learn skimming and scanning techniques for reading.
  •  Pay attention to the tone and structure of the passages to understand the intended message better.
  • Allocate time for practicing writing essays and analyzing sample answers to gain insights into what is expected in the exam. Learn various sentence structures and use them in writing essays.
  • Finish the week by taking a full-length practice test. Time yourself for each section and simulate exam conditions as closely as possible. Afterward, review your answers and identify areas where you need to improve.

Week-3

  • Listen to a podcast or a lecture and take notes. Practice answering questions from a previous IELTS Listening Test.
  • Read an academic article or a news article and take notes. Practice answering questions from a previous IELTS exam.
  • Choose a topic from the IELTS speaking task 2 and record yourself speaking for 2 minutes. Listen to your recording and identify areas for improvement.
  • Practice Vocabulary. Learn 10 new English words and use them in a sentence.
  • Take a day off from studying and reflect on your progress so far. Identify your strengths and weaknesses and plan your study schedule for the next week accordingly.

Week-4

  • Focus on the Writing module by practicing one or two tasks, 2 essays from past papers. Analyze your work and look for areas where you can improve. Try to use more complex sentence structures, vocabulary, and grammar.
  • Review the Reading module by doing a full practice test. Take note of the strategies that work best for you and use them to improve your score. Analyze the questions you got wrong and identify any recurring mistakes.
  • Work on your Listening skills by doing a practice test or listening to a podcast. Pay attention to the different accents and try to identify the main ideas and details. Spend at least an hour practicing your speaking skills. Record yourself speaking on different topics and listen to your recordings to identify areas for improvement.
  • Take a full-length practice test to evaluate your progress and identify areas of improvement. Review the test and analyze your mistakes.
  • Revise your notes and review the tips and strategies you have learned throughout the past month.
  • Take a break from your IELTS preparation and engage in a relaxing activity to avoid burnout.

As you finish your IELTS preparation, stay motivated and maintain a consistent study routine to ensure that you are on track to achieving your target score. Finally, on the exam day, stay calm, manage your time effectively, and read the instructions carefully before beginning each section.
