Main Entrance Exams to Study Abroad

Though the choice of entrance exams you need to take to study abroad is highly influenced by factors such as the subject you want to study, your country and university of choice, the level of program you want to undertake and so on, here we have compiled a list that all students must know about.

To make the information more organized and understandable, here I have divided the entrance exams to Study Abroad into two categories – Language Proficiency Tests and Aptitude Tests.

Language Proficiency Tests

You cannot survive in an English-speaking country unless you are fluent in the English language. Hence, your level of language proficiency is likely to be the most important aspect that international universities are interested in. There are several language proficiency tests available to assist you in demonstrating the same. When conducting research, the most common names you will come across are IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL.

Hold on. You do not need to take all of them. Any one of them is enough to accomplish your purpose of study abroad. An important point to remember here is that not all overseas countries and universities accept all language proficiency exams, hence, digging a little about the accepted exams is crucial after you make your university and course choices. An overseas education consultant is the best source to talk to if you have any sort of trouble while picking one.

IELTS

The British Council administers IELTS, or the International English Language Testing System, which is the most popular of the three. The test assesses candidates’ four language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and can be used for both migration and Study Abroad Purposes. The IELTS Test is accepted as proof of English language proficiency by over 11,000 organizations globally, including universities, colleges, government, and other public and private bodies.

The IELTS Exam is intricate and challenging to clear, especially for non-native English speakers. Enrolling in reputable IELTS coaching can save you from all the distress associated with IELTS and can make it pretty easy to achieve the needed score.

PTE

The Pearson Test of English, or PTE, is a computer-based English language proficiency exam that is accepted in countries such as Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The test is recognized by over 3000 universities and colleges and evaluates four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. Like IELTS, PTE can also be troublesome to prepare if tried at your own. A trustable PTE Coaching is the finest spot to get trained for the PTE exam and Get a satisfactory PTE Result

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language, abbreviated as TOEFL, is accepted by over 8,000 universities and colleges internationally. The test is available in two formats: offline and online. More than 130 countries around the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, recognize and appreciate TOEFL as a valid proof of English language proficiency.

Aptitude Tests

Aptitude tests are not always required, and if they are, the choice depends on the course you want to study. The most common examples are

SAT

The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is designed to assess students’ written, verbal, and mathematical abilities in order to determine their eligibility to study an undergraduate course abroad. It is run by the College Board in the United States. The test is for those wishing to apply to the United States, Canada, or Germany for admission. The written test, of duration 3 hours, can significantly enhance the chances of acceptance of your application if scored well.

ACT

The American College Testing, also known as the ACT, is a standardized exam that analyses test takers on four criteria: English, Reading, Mathematics, and Science. The two-and-a-half-hour test is designed for students looking for undergraduate admission in the United States. The test can be taken in two ways: on a computer or on paper. The choice between SAT and ACT is decided by the college you choose to attend in the United States.

GMAT

GMAT, or Graduate Management Admission Test, is a required test for those wanting to pursue MBA in countries like the United States and Canada. The Graduate Management Admissions Council conducts the test, which evaluates a candidate’s analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading abilities.  GMAT is a requirement for admission to over 21,000 universities/colleges worldwide.  The GMAT lasts for 3 hours and 7 minutes in total.

GRE

The Graduate Record Examination, or GRE, analyses students’ ability to pursue post-graduate studies abroad. It examines the candidate’s verbal, mathematical, and general analytical abilities. GRE is conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is acknowledged by all English-speaking nations, most notably Canada, Australia, and the United States. The exam is picked for programs such as architecture, engineering, computer science, biotechnology, and MBA. GRE can be given online anytime in the year and is a requirement for admission to a substantial percentage of overseas schools offering higher education.
